...some easy ways of extending the lifetime of your products
How to take proper care of your product? We all use them in different ways. Climate, body size, clothing and usage can vary a lot from customer to customer. Materials and construction behave differently depending on these factors. But there are a few things that you can always have in mind:
Don’t overpack. It creates unnecessary tension on the materials. We have picked highly durable fabrics, but they are not made of solid steel.
Don’t leave it for too long in direct sunlight. The heat and rays affect color durability and performance of most materials (not only on our products).
Distribute the weight of your backpack by using the hipbelt and sternum straps correctly. It’s better for your body and for the pack.
Fasten loose straps with the elastic band loop that you can find on most of our backpack straps. This is to avoid them getting stuck in doors.
Did you know that broken zipper sliders are the most common product damage in the world of apparel and bags? That’s why most renowned zipper companies have a zipper best practice guide book. Here’s a few takeaways:
never put load on/carry a product in the zipper puller
pull the slider smoothly in the direction of zipper - don’t pull it upwards
don’t stress the tension of the zipper by pressing stuff into zipper opening
keep zipper closed as much as possible
don’t fold zipper
if the slider gets stuck in the zipper teeth - try to smoothly pull it back and try again.
If your product is soaked with water after a nice rainy run - make sure to store the pack in a warm place to dry asap.
Check out the care label and follow instructions! They are placed inside the product, usually in a pocket or side seam. These are recommendations from our producers, who have a long experience in the specific product.
Wash your product! Smelly or dirty? How do I actually wash my IAMRUNBOX product? Follow the care instructions (point 7) and our simple guide below that works for all our products except Runmask, Quick-dry towel, PM 2.5 filters and Carabiners:
Equipment needed: soft sponge, dish soap, dry towel and water
Recommended location: shower
Wash the dirty area with water to dissolve the stain. Either by showering or with a sponge.
Put dish soap on the sponge and rub gently
Rinse with water
Dry the wet area with a towel
Leave to dry in a warm, preferably ventilated place, but not directly onto a radiator or in direct sunlight. Expose the padded mesh areas or back panels, since they take the longest to dry.
To remove extreme odor, it might be trickier. What is causing the smell is bacteria. We are working on an environmentally friendly spray that will remove smelly bacteria and that is nice to your skin, doesn’t contain PFAS or other dangerous chemicals that create allergy or hormone disturbances. We will keep you posted on this highly exciting topic :)
